Applied fashion design

Group Work
Due to working in groups of four for this project I was apprehensive at first as I feel strongly about my own personal style and approach to fashion.
Working in groups made me realise more about the fashion industry due to everybody’s different opinion and approach towards fashion, this made me think about what it will actually be like working in the fashion work. Overall I learned and gained a lot of new research and technical skills due to having to do what the group said. An example of this is working in CAD as I would usually hand render illustrations I gained a lot of new knowledge from having to do my own personal approach in a completely different style to my own. My group was extremely helpful towards each other, which made me learn quicker. Working in a group also made me consume my time correctly as I didn’t want to let the rest of the team down keeping up to date with the work was essential.

Selfridges
As a group our first task was to visit selfridges in Manchester to complete the appropriate shop report in which we chose Marc Jacobs.
From this we then had to choose a latest trend which we chose 360 degrees which was based on hippies and scavengers. From this we were to complete a group trend board.

Group trend board

My research was mainly looking into italian style vogue and past hippie and scavenger pictures.

Development
I then went onto develpment in which i was designing casual wear I had to keep my ideas fairly simple fitted in with the rest of the group. My fabrics consisted of green and red jersey, grey wool, pattern silks and tie effect trims. My group spoke on facebook and met at least twice a week to arrange fabrics ect. This was useful knowing how far everyone was up to with there work.

Design ideas- casual wear
Designing within a trend and for Marc Jacobs was a challenge fitting in for every aspect of the breif. I designed fairly simple oversized garments with small details such as patterned buttons, trims and embellished pockets.

Final line up
For my final line up as a group we decided to work using CAD as it looks more professional and is easier to understand. I kept within the colour palette, added prices and placed fabric swatched on this.

Presentation
For our group presenation I was nervous at first but once we organised what we were going to say it ran pretty smoothly. As a group we hung all our range plans up using wooden hangers to match our designs, we then added a poem in the middle with fabric swatched around this. Our best illustrtion was placed underneath this.

The portfolio
The portfolio i found the quickest and easiest part due to adding the best work in which i had already done. I also added the group moodboard and three illustrtions which were drawn using CAD.

Overall i througly enjoyed this project and will take what i have learnt for the rest of my university life and in the future.
